Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole

Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole | Sparks Chef

Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole is a delicious and comforting dish that combines the flavors of chicken, beef, cheese, and a creamy sauce. The dish is made by flattening and rolling thin-sliced chicken breasts around ham and cheese, then coating them in breadcrumbs and baking them in a casserole dish.
The creamy sauce is made from a combination of chicken broth, cream, and seasonings, and is poured over the top of the chicken before baking. The result is a rich and savory casserole that is perfect for a cozy family dinner or special occasion. Sides such as roasted vegetables, rice, or salad can be served with the casserole to make a well-rounded meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 6 oz beef, cut into bite-sized pieces (I use beef)
  • 4 4 oz melted butter
  • 6 oz of softened cream cheese
  • 5 oz Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon white wine (optional)
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.
  • Place chicken in the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Layer beef pieces.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the melted butter, softened cream cheese, white wine (if using), mustard, lemon juice, and salt. Stir until a thick sauce forms.
  • Spread this sauce over the chicken and ham in the roasting pan.
  • Place slices of Swiss cheese on top of the sauce. Bake for 30–40 minutes.
  • Towards the end, I toasted it for 2 minutes so that the cheese turned golden and bubbling. If you have decided to do so, do not leave it unattended. It is very easy to burn the cheese frosting.

Notes

  1. Use thin-sliced chicken breasts: Thin-sliced chicken breasts are easier to pound and flatten, which will help make rolling the casserole easier and ensure even cooking.
  2. Pound the chicken evenly: When pounding the chicken, be sure to do so evenly to ensure that it cooks evenly and rolls up neatly.
  3. Pre-cook the beef: Pre-cooking the meat slightly in a skillet can help to remove excess moisture and ensure that it stays in place when rolling the casserole.
  4. Use toothpicks or kitchen twine: Toothpicks or kitchen twine can help keep the casserole together while it bakes and prevent it from falling apart.
  5. Make the sauce ahead of time: You can make the sauce for the casserole ahead of time to save time on the day of cooking. This will also give the flavors time to meld together and make for a richer and more delicious sauce.
  6. Let the casserole rest before slicing: Letting the casserole rest for a few minutes after removing it from the oven can help the flavors settle and make it easier to slice.
